Right then...I've begun the 3rd album (the follow-up to 'Speak For Yourself'). I'm going to write a more frequent blog as I did with the last one so you can keep an eye on me and make sure I'm not slacking! I wonder how it's gonna turn out? How exciting! You're very welcome to comment but please don't ask me questions on here or i'll never get any work done. You can email me with any questions you have and every month we'll pick 20 from the virtual 'hat' and post them. Send your questions to: igrill@imogenheap.com

Much much more to come! Love, fluv x i x Wheeeeee!!!

Re: Whizz Kid!

Hello you!
Getting there with the album... another blog in about a week. Thanks for all support and encouragement along the way. Really really helping me out there!

So..Yesterday morning I had an idea... does anyone fancy helping me out in creating a little webtoy/game thing?
If so..can you have a read below and see if you're still up for it? It's a mammoth task in the time we've got (xmas deadline).
If not... don't read on or it'll spoil the surprise! (I bet a lot of you read on anyway)

What I'd like to do is to get some kind of webpage up where people can upload photo's of their faces, voice and text into the space.
Plan is... basically, it's me dancing (very sillily!) about to one of the tracks off my new album either on stage/in garden or studio... but you can put your face on my animated body (slightly elf yourself with a few twists).
While I'm dancing the user presses a button to tell animated immi what to do.
I guess In the same way that if you were playing a drum loop and you hit a "fill" key (not that I would ever actually use anything like that in my music!).. the loop at the right moment would go into that drum fill then after a bar or two would go back into the original main loop.

So...User gets 1/2/3 scene choices (see what time permits!)

and occasionally Abigale (my 1950's motor!) will drive by in the background.

Choice of 3 outfits...

Something girly
Something DIY
something sporty

(again time)

Choice of accessories that I do various things with.

keytar/broom/mop/guitar - I just go fetch these and dance silly.
megaphone - I go get the megaphone and out comes the user's spoken audio. e.g. Happy christmas Jennie, Love you! or happy new year, love jack. Effected so it sounds like it's coming through a megaphone.
sparkler - the text the user types in become a message written by me as a sparker trail. Scene becomes dark while light from the sparkler creates illuminated message.

My mate Nick Stewart just came over this morning and filmed me doing all kinds of silly moves. He's going to start getting images together so they can be animated. What we need is a genius programmer (you??) to build the environment for all this to work in. Here's his showreel so you can see what he does.

We've worked together before. He lives in London.

Obviously this will all take time (and may be impossible in the short time we have) and some of you reading may do this as a job. I'm not expecting anyone to do this for free so if it feels right to choose you, we'll talk cash!

Please send all links to relevant, previous works created to whizzkid@imogenheap.com

Also... if this works out... i'm looking for someone more permanent to work with me on the new album campaign on various ideas from iphone apps to new website.

Cheers!!! Look forward to seeing what happens!

Lots of love

Wow that sounds like an amazing idea. I'm totally loving the concept! As someone who has worked on flash applications before, however, I can safely say that you would need someone working on that pretty much 12 hours a day to get it out for Christmas.

If you are envisioning a video of yourself dancing around then there has to be a different video for every combination of outfit and accessory. An animated Immi (be it hand drawn, CGI or 3D model) would take longer to do.

I think the main things I'd be concerned about would be the deliverance of the messages... applying the megaphone sound effect to the audio and making the typed message look like it was written with a sparkler - both really tricky. If I were responsible and had the resources I'd have one person working on those two things and another on all the rest!

Having said all that, it's totally possible and I'm already looking forward to seeing the results :)
i am ecstatic, if i had the skills i would be on that so fast.
Oh my god... I'm SO mad at myself right now for knowing only barely how to do all these stuff... because I would've been thrilled to work with you on the new album campaign... Same thing for the iphone apps.

It's such a great idea though!

Anyway, if you have ANY other idea that meets my abilities, there's no question that I'd love to participate!

ANYWAY, congrats on the ideas and good luck with this and the album!
hmm, tricky. Definitely a cool idea. The audio effect would be pretty simple to do by playing multiple delayed versions. The sparklers are trickyesk. Mainly if you want it to actually look like you're drawing it, but you in the background waving your arms about wackily would do I think. A nice effect could be a long exposure sped up version of you drawing stuff in the air like an insane person.
The face on your face thing would be ok except the work required to map the positions of all the different scenes and variations would be a bit. With less variations it could be done. I'm assuming real video of you is going to be used.
Uploading your face and audio would require a fair bit of database wrangling, as in order to send it to someone else there needs to be a way to store it all for a decent time period. All in all doable and cool. I could do it but I'd be lying if I said I had enough experience in the database stuff. Still, how hard can it be? (famous last words)

Hey, my sister-in-law works for a design firm here in Norfolk, Virginia that does this sort of thing for companies. They might be a little pricy, I'm not sure, and they might not be able to work on it at all but its always worth contacting them.
Their site is http://www.thisisgrow.com/
and their portfolio is on there as well. Tell them Alex Parker referred you.

Hope that helps!
Hey there! I read your post and wanted to point you over my way, to my company Gaslight Studios. I've been a professional video game designer and developer for over 7 years now, and have worked on PC, Xbox360 and Wii titles including some multi-award winning games. My team and I could complete this project by Christmas for you - and working with a professional game designer and developer, you know you'll be working with someone who knows how to get things done, and how to make it fun!
