Ah, thanks! Lol well yes of course it wasn't an improvisation, but you said charity and immediately I'm clicking over to the improv section to see if it's downloadable.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, the video of Imogen playing the song is available here:

And the best rendition of Tori playing Cornflake Girl that I've seen on YouTube is here:

I seem to recall that DavidB mentioned that Immi performed "Cornflake Girl" one more time at another concert, but I don'`t know which one...

I am a huge Tori fan but I have to say that I love Immi's version. As always she takes something and makes it her own. What I have to disagree with, though, are the people who have said that Cornflake Girl is an "easy" song to play. Yes, the actual song itself (basic melody, etc.) isn't difficult, but those piano solos?? Those are not easy in my book.

I think I saw some such claim, but I couldn't verify it. So far as I know, the only performance was at Melbourne. I think there may have been confusion because the set-list posted for Brisbane on the Tour page also shows Cornflake Girl, but if you check the heading, it seems to be the Melbourne set-list posted again in error.

I'd agree with that. Tori Amos is a very good pianist, and her piano solos would be difficult to copy. But Immi didn't attempt that. I don't know if she could if she tried (with time to practice the piece). Her own piano playing is very good for her purposes, but I can't think of any evidence that she has virtuoso skills like, say, Rick Wakeman or Mike Garson http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzBAuocLSDc&feature=related (not to mention the great classical pianists). Her strength is her musicality, not the ability to play a lot of notes very fast. (One of her early instrumentals does have a fast solo, but it is a kind of parody of atonal music, which hardly counts.)

I would mostly agree with this. It was a little disingenuous to say that Tori's arrangement of Cornflake Girl is easy to play. However even pandora30 agrees that the basic song itself is not difficult. I would say that for someone with reasonable technique, the solos are not that difficult, but certainly not easy. Don't forget that Tori plays with two other musicans, both of whom are fine players, which makes a difference in the overall arrangement, and perceived level of complexity.

David: Which early instrumental song of Imogen's were you referring to with regards to the fast solo?
