<  'Ellipse' Discussion  ~  Canvas, as a single.

I wonder why she chose this song to be the first one.
It seems a bit random, doesn't it? But I think it could've been because she already had an idea for a video while she was writing it (thanks to the thing that the song was inspired by in the first place - Black Canvas). I don't know, it just seems like an unexpected first single to me with songs like First Train Home, Bad Body Double, and Swoon. Then again, it's immi, she knows what she's doing.

Just wanted to get some opinions on the subject, like with the Polyfilla debate.

Don't know what your source is for this information but if it's true, she may not want to put the best out first, or it may have been suggested by those who know and have heard the 5 songs from her sampler. Without personally knowing her this is all speculation. After hearing samples and how she came up with the idea, I myself will be anxiously waiting to here this one when ever it is released.

I always thought First Train Home was the obvious single, and I still do. It has a more mainstream sound about it from what I've heard in the vBlogs. I'm sure she knows what she's doing though, it isn't something she just wouldn't give much thought to.

Canvas does sound very beautiful, but I'd be worried for her if it's one of those songs that you have to wait to build up before it gets "good" because most modern-day music listeners wouldn't really wait. I'm so excited to hear it though! Very Happy

I'm happy with Canvas as a single.

...it's low key in comparison to all the other 'monsters' of the album, so having it as a first single should be a good way of giving us a taste of what's to come (presuming it's to be released before the actual record).

I'd much prefer to wait until the album comes out for 'First Train Home' and 'Tidal'.

Imogen has stated in her twitter that Canvas will be the first video. So, I'm assuming it's the first single from the album.

@huckfinn: good point, hopefully it will be just as successful and maybe put forward into a movie Very Happy

I've heard bits and pieces of Canvas..Sounds to me like it'll be the "Hide and Seek of the album!!! It's very beautiful. I don't mind it as the first single. I think I'm gonna go with the fact that she had an idea for the video in mind while she was writing it as the reason why she's using it as the first single! Smile But then again, this is immi!!! She hates doing things conventionally! Haha! The video is sure to be great!

I've been thinking this too. Is this song at all radio friendly? Or is this first single done for a song she LOVES and wants to put out for creative peace of mind? Why as a first single then?

I'm going to assume Imogen knows what she's doing. I'm looking forward to the release though.

It could be a multitude of things. It's always a different reason. The first one to come out isn't always necessarily the best one or her favourite. I'd of thought 'Canvas' would be quite a quiet song and as Mitholas said, is it even radio friendly...?

My answer to that would probably be, from a mainstream point of view, no, because Imogen's music is so far out there that the likes of Rihanna and whatnot don't come close. To some, it's an acquired taste.

It might be that Imogen wants this song to be the album breaker, or perhaps it needs a little more publicity. Or it might even be the case that it's the perfect song to be released as a prelude to a brilliant album.

Who knows? Except Immi of course.

Does anyone have any idea when the single will be released? I've heard rumors that the album will be out July 14th... anyone know about "Canvas"?

The release date hasn't been officially decided on, so those rumours, though they may end up being right, are based on nothing. Imogen herself tweeted a bit ago she would let us know as soon as a date was set. You have to remember that the album isn't finished.

I don't think it has... She hasn't really worked on the last "missing" song has she?

Canvas won't be the first single. It may be the first full song everyone hears, but it won't be the first single...

From what I've heard of the new album, the wait will be worth it!

As for the biog, it's finished and we've notified everyone who's tweets have been used. We're just waiting for people to get back to us with a little bit of info we've requested from them, so I can see it being up on the site in the near future, where everyone will be able to read it.
