I always thought it was about Christmas or Hannukkah (however you spell it...sorry if I have caused offence!)...just listen to the chorus...

"It's that time of year,
Leave all our hopelessnesses aside,
Just for a little while".

Christmas (or Hannukkah...is that one "n" or two? Hanukkah looks better.) is when we lay aside or differences and families, friends etc come together. And yeah, the whole smoke alarm thing does sound like a cooked turkey gone wrong.

All in all, I just love the song 'Just for Now'. It's got a great melody and the lyrics are outstanding.
I mean, all of her songs have just the greatest lyrics. I am so sick of stupid songs like Ms New Booty and pointless lyrics that supposedly make up good music?
Yeah, so when I first listened to Imogen Heap, I fell in love with her music.
She's incredible. In every way. 100% unique and original.
Thanks Immi for making music that makes a difference and for influencing us all with your wonderful talents. :]

You just described the way I feel about it !

I had to post a message about this amazing song. My 1rst discovery - my love at 1rst sight. Just for now is and will always be one of my favorite songs of her.

I am deeply inspired to make a choreography on it one day, I just need the opportunity !
I see myself doing sign language at the end of the chorus, on I'm secretely on your side (I actually learned how to say it already, in with the french signs ^^).

If someone ever finds an instrumental version of the song, or the piano pattern, I want it ! =)

Totally -- a great song. Imogen already choreographed it (well, sort of).

She does a little dance in this GREAT video of a live performance:

I don't know where to put this request, so I'll just put it here.

I'd really like my choir to sing Just For Now, preferably how its done in the video posted in the above post. But, it turns out that I suck at arranging. Does anyone know where I can find music for it?

It seems very few of Imogen's songs are available through normal channels as printed music. Just for Now is not one of them, apparently, but there are these shreds out there:

http://www.singers.com/2291c/Durant/Durant-Christmas/ Maybe these people transcribed it to a lead sheet (funny to think of Just for Now as xMas music, isn't it). Perhaps they would share it.

http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/i/imogen_heap/just_for_now_crd.htm Chord chart (probably a by-ear transcription - accuracy not a given).

I have no idea about the legality of publishing or using such charts.

this is pretty much apropos of nothing, but i heard this a couple of weeks ago on sirius chill and it caught my ear, though it took me until a second listen to realize it was sampling "just for now." actually it's kind of like the whole song was constructed using the samples as notes (if that makes any sense), making me think of something james said once to the effect that immi's truest instrument is her voice, rather than anything she plays to accompany herself.

edit: smallish rolling stone article on clams casino...
