Is this the forum where I'm s'posed to flaunt my old-school Immi-fan cred? ...for the 3 people that will read it anyway...
FWIW, I used to be SkiingOnMars or DanH1979 on various Imogen or Frou Frou related boards.
I heard immi on the radio in Austin, TX in ...1998? She was in town for an exclusive local radio-station-sponsored event, which I missed out on, but someone had me listen to I, Megaphone, which I immediately went out and bought. I caught the distant early warning of Frou Frou... I still have some personal recordings somewhere of 5 of the songs from Details that were streamed over the internet by some now-defunct AOL internet radio station. I'm pretty sure I'm personally responsible for turning tens of people onto Frou Frou, and you can bet I went and saw Immi & Guy when they came to town then.
Ok, gotta get a rant out of the way:
So of course, I was all over Immi's new solo record, and really excited when I found out she was playing my hometown. As a fan who very recently bought tickets, I'm annoyed that it turns out that Imogen won't be on tour with Tori, especially because Tori fans would have liked Immi, I think. Personally, I'll get over it, esp. because it's a good excuse to finally see a legend like Tori in concert, and I'm sure Immi (the real reason I bought the tickets) will be back. However, as a music businessperson, something is wacky about this. I don't intend to be mean, Immi, cause I have TONS of respect for you... but don't book a tour before you're sure you've got distribution for your record in the places you're touring! Even if it seems like an awesome idea! And if you do book that tour, you should probably figure out a way to fly yourself over and make the show go on, even if you have to do it really minimal, and have a buddy sell CDs at the concerts or something! Not that my advice is worth anything in this department... Here's hoping it goes much better for Immi and the fans the next time around.
Ok, enough of that... And here's a bit about me, perhaps, for the one person that is still reading:
I'm a musically-oriented geek-type, but I can fool people into thinking I'm cool every once in a while. I grew up in the hill country near San Antonio, TX and have resided in Austin, TX for about 7 years. i do electrical engineering by day: lots of signal processing and programming and modelling and stuff, as much as I can on OS X. After hours, I play bass in a band and do production and recording in my free time. In the past, I've played other instruments (piano, french horn, lots of guitar, a bit of cello, and teh c0mput3r!!11 software instruments).
A random sampling of my musical tastes: Ben Folds (esp. since he went solo), Pearl Jam, Train, Our Lady Peace, Fiona Apple, Miles Davis, Mozart, Prokofiev. I also like some obscure artists, like the Turtle Island String Quartet, Michael Elwood and Trout Fishing in America, and I hope you all hear about my friends' band someday: Friends of Lizzy (they're on iTunes and cdbaby, check 'em out). |

whoa
since you dont know the details dont assume you know the facts.
immi never booked or confirmed the tour with tori...it sounds more like both hoped it could happen and it just wasnt possible...and immi never advertised it...tori did.
being in the music business yourself you should definitely know that flying down and just doing a tour isnt as easy as it sounds (especially coming from another country and especially not for someone on the same level as immi) maybe you should rethink the judgement.
but hey welcome anyway...and glad you are here and posted.
austin is a very cool town...most of my best friends live there or in san marcos and are in music some form or another.
it can be a frustrating business but the most rewarding one i know.
take care and maybe see you at aclfest or a future texas immi show.
