So, I'm sure this conversation has been had before, but I must have missed it! Who/What is this song about exactly?

I'm guessing it's about the moment after saying something you shouldn't have in the heat of an argument.

I am liking the fact that immi is using this song as her last song to end her shows the last words Bye Bye Bye Bye fit so well but they are also a bit sad only because immi is going off stage and you know its the end of the show and time to go home but i do love this song Smile

Ya its pretty much bout the moment after saying something you shouldnt have then the air after that moment.
Live its haunting. How she taps the piano etc..the byebyebyebyebye.
Love the sample she uses on the cd.
I have had a great idea for a video for it.

like just for now and the moment i said it
i remember hearing another song where she sings mostly 1 octave higher and is realllly soothing but i couldnt catch the title
maybe it was just me ? any suggestions ?

The only words I can make out are the guy saying 'I'll be fine', Immi speaking, then him yelling 'I'll be FINE!'.

It's kinda morbid, but I think the song might be about more than just an argument, I always get the impression it's about someone looking back over the argument that ended the relationship, like it's something that's happened, rather than something that's happening.
or
They have a drunken argument, the guy goes to leave and she tries to stop him, he leaves anyway drives off and has an accident - might be me reading too much into it but the line 'put back the car keys, or someone's gonna get hurt' followed by the 'I'll be FINE!' and then the 'smash', 'I'm losing you', and repeated 'bye' at the end just kind of suggest it to me...

That makes so much sense that it's scary. I would've never thought of that.

This song has always given me chills even the first time I heard it....and more so seeing immi perform it live and the (sad/regret/desperate) emotion she pours into it.....and the piano parts in between the verses really adds so much to that feeling.

I do remember reading in one of the oh so many online interviews where immi alluded to something along the lines of Angry_monkeys' interpretation: something that was said that you immediately realize you shouldn't have said and can't take back....which leads to the argument and the other person storming out...but desperately trying to prevent them from leaving because of this gut feeling--'i've got a bad feeling.....trust me on this one' (possibly they've had too much to drink and shouldn't be driving) --that something (other than the end of a relationship) is going to happen if they do.

and cut them and gave them to me in my hand. (Wm. Carlos Wm.s)

The expression is incredible and it perfectly represents that moment you can't take back. If this songs doesn't send chills down your spine, I'm not sure what would.

That's EXACTLY what I thought when first hearing the song. The lyrics definitely imply a car accident or something like that. Thanks for your help!

This was an interestiong read! I read the song completely differently, not about drunken arguments and car crashes but about the end of a relationship through an affair. 'the moment i said it' being the moment she confronted him, 'lead in your eyelids' the closing of the eyes to denote she's right, 'it's not even light yet and you've somewhere to be', going out early to see the other one. To me she is trying to save the relationship but realises it's over hence the bye bye bye at the end.

I didnt go through and read all of everyone else's posts, but i believe 'The Moment I Said It" is about a woman's husband cheating on her...because she says, 'where are you going at this hour','put down the car keys before someone gets hurt'...i think it ties into an affair...

Hi.
Well fore me this song has become wery personal.
I´m the one opening my mouth and telling that I dont like this!
"sadly things just happend we can´t explain" Mum says to me.
All the nights that have been disasters because of all the fights. "smah" My dad is "scaring" me because he was violent against my mother. "dont!" Mum is screaming! "An other one"...."please" I say, i can´t stand this situation!
"Trust me on this one!" Mum was telling me, again that she was going to fix this. I think "you gona throw it all away"

"I´m losing you" my mum, because she starts to drink whit my dad and started to go with him to the pub under the period I was bulied in school. She did´t knew, nobody knew.

So everytime I want to cry, it´s hard fore me to do taht because I´ve always closed my feelings inside. But when i lsten to this song that i love all the memorys and thaugths comes to me. It fits so well to what I have experient.

(I´m from Sweden so I´ll hope you dont get mad at me, know that I´m not shuch a good whriter) Rolling Eyes I hope you will understand what I meen!

As a matter of fact i also have a similar tought...I think its about "drugs" ...always makes me think about a strong addiction that has to be fullfiled at any time... and it's empowered with the words "'i'm loosing you i'm loosing you" wich indicates "he" is walking towards that direction very fast... Another word that can (or not...) help my theory is the words..."Lead in your eyelids"... When somebody is "high"...the eyes are heavy and the eyelids are almost closed...

It can perfectly be about drinking too... but something tells me that he is in a rush to get some more... at any "hour" he's calling with no hesitation to somebody...and "It's not even light out" but suddenly, he have to be somewhere...

bottom line: we know it's about somekind of addiction...and it all ends bad... beating her... (I hope it was not Immi...OR ELSE...!!!) and he crashes with the car...

one funny thing I perceive: the final piano beats after the final "SMASH"...I consider it to be those machines that measures the heart beat at the hospitals... Laughing

Wow, i love this song, its always one of my favourites, and yea, like someone said, it does put chills down your spine, i listened to it over and over today too, i was in a very "the moment i said it" mood today, isnt it funny cause i was sitting on the bus thinking about the meaning of the song, and i was sorta thinking about the smash..and the first thing taht i could imagine (dont know why) was someone smashing things, like glass, cos it sounds so much like the smashing of glass when she says it.
But i just love this song, and im glad i saw these posts today, cos it helps me think abou tit in a different .. well not so much different, just better more indepth way.
