Wow, Immi was just amazing! I loved the full band, the fantastic new arrangements, the crazy energy. She was bopping along like there was no tomorrow! Here are a few pix, with more to come:
I couldn't haul in my DSLR this time, so I bought a compact camera just for this show. I recalled Toasty mentioned that her pix were taken with a Canon A620, so I researched it along with others and settled on it, but it's discontinued now, so I got the A630. It was a struggle to lock focus and hold still, but I did manage to get some good stuff, though the resulting pix are fairly noisy, even after running them through noise reduction software. I also had to boost the brightness since I was using higher shutter speeds. The A620 should produce similar results, yet most of Toasty's photos are crystal clear and well-exposed. Great stuff, but how do you do it?

Point and click. I usually get a great spot to shoot from and I know what to expect in terms of the stage setup and lighting scheme during the concerts. I try to capture something different at each gig. Suffice to say I have a lot of pictures to choose from after every night. As far as editing goes, I only use an application to resize and, on rare occasions, crop the photos. So basically what you see is what my camera takes. All of the shots I posted from this show have been reduced in size with no other ajustments. |

The pictures here make me happy!
Does anyone have the set list, or at least know what the Frou Frou song she played was? I'm curious.
This was my first ever show of hers, and I loved every minute!
Thanks! |

Wendelina - The Frou Frou song she played was "Let Go"...also on the Garden State soundtrack. It was AMAZING!!!! SHE'S AMAZING!!! By far the best concert i've ever been to! Now i only wish i had gotten tix to more of her shows!!!
ALSO...KID BEYOND WAS AWESOME!!!!!! I had heard some of his stuff on his Myspace page, but that didn't even compare!! Together, they both ROCKED the stage!!! |

Thank you so much!
And, I totally agree. The concert was awesome! I loved how Kid Beyond worked so well with her on stage, he added a nice touch to the songs they did together, as well as his own stuff. I smiled all night, I was so happy with the show. ^_^ |

This was THE best concert I've ever been to by far! I saw Immi the past two times she came to the bay area (with hotel cafe, then as a headliner) and, while the shows were awesome, I thought that this performance really captured the kinetic energy that is inherent in her upbeat music while not betraying the near heartbreaking beauty of her downbeats. This show easily topped the first two. It just made me want to move and I couldn't (and didn't) fight the feeling. It was a great pairing with Kid Beyond, who I had unfortunately not heard of til that evening, but it was a splendid introduction! I was inspired and captivated the whole evening I was sad when it was over and that I had to leave the little bubble of warmth that had been created.
Well done Immi (cold and all) thanks for shakin' that groove thang! |

Very nice! I do notice that you get different types of photos each night.
I knew you were going to say you made no other adjustments other than resizing. I had to make tons of adjustments to my photos. What mode were you using (Auto, P, Av, other)? Do you remember what ISO and shutter speeds you were getting? I would imagine that your camera would pick a high ISO (400) and slow shutter speeds, giving you noise and blur. But since you're right at the front (I'm assuming), I guess it might've been bright enough, although from your posted photos you're still relatively sharp and noise-free even when Immi is silhouetted (Pic #3). That's amazing! I was in the middle of the floor, maybe 5 or 6 "rows" back from you, and I had to use manual mode at ISO 800 and shutter speeds of 1/80 to 1/125 to get usable shots that were dim, then boost the brightness and contrast in Photoshop and use a noise reduction program to get the passable final results that you see, and there's still lots of noise in the background. I'm baffled!
Sorry for all the tech talk, everyone!

I don't know if you've seen my photos from the January show at the Great American Music Hall, but here they are: Imogen Heap at GAMH
I used my DSLR there, and they turned out much better than the ones here. There aren't too many more good ones from the Warfield, but I'll try to work some miracles on some of them and post them here later.

Forgive me if you've said somewhere and I just missed it, but what DSLR do you use, Klaor? I'm kinda in the market and have been comparing models. I glanced through a few of your shots on the linked-to pages -- quite impressive. Interested to know your gear.
Thanks. |

You're right on the mark. I primarily shoot in Program mode at ISO 400, but I'll flip to Manual once in a while. Shutter speeds normally range from 1/25 and slower. Photo #3 for example is at ISO 400 with a shutter speed of 1/8.

I have that page bookmarked! I meant to e-mail you about getting a few of those at full resolution after you first posted them. They're absolutely gorgeous. |

Fireball, I did mention my DSLR back in January, but I'll mention it again: I use the original Canon Digital Rebel. The 2nd and 3rd versions of it (the XT and XTi) are available and have more megapixels, functions, and faster speed, but they've shrunk in size and to me they don't feel as good in my hands as the original one. I don't know much about Nikon, but I've read that the D80, D70, D50, and the upcoming D40 are supposed to be pretty nice, too.
Toasty, wow, so at those slow shutter speeds, you must be resting your camera on the stage, right? But even then, if Immi moves, (and she was grooving all night!) your shots will be blurry. I guess you have the knack for catching her when she's not moving much.
I'm flattered that you bookmarked my photos! Which GAMH shots would you like at full-res?

Nice hardware, Klaor. Yeah, the D80 was the one that has been most highly recommended to me. I have a Nikon 35mm SLR and three lenses, which is one reason why the Nikons have been looking so attractive to me -- I can use the lenses I've already invested in.
Your shots are making me think about going to test drive a few of the Canons now though. |

What a fantastic show! I took my 13 year old daughter with me and I'm so glad I did, I think it's an experience she may not have again. The sound was great and Immi's mood and personality are so great to just be close to. I was really happy with the setlist, I do wish I had the chance to hear Shine and Getting Scared live. I just can't think of one thing I was unhappy about, I just had an amazing evening. The band and Kid Beyond added a fantastic layer to the sound of everything.
My daughter of course swooned over Levi and has not shut up since. She got to meet him and talk to him a bit, a hug sent her over the edge and we have a full blown crush now. She got a cold that night and is convinced that she caught it from him. Will it ever end, oh to be 13 again.
I really enjoyed listening to Levi, the boys got skills.
You cannot listen to Kid Beyond on CD and really appreciate him. The live sound is amazing and you have to watch him work. Kuddos to Immi for bringing along great talent on the road with her.
I hope the whole crew is feeling better, thanks for a fantastic evening.... |
