Sorry, not my cup of tea at all. Imo it's nothing but simple catchy pop, which doesn't have to suck but it's just that it has already been done so many times before.

^The good thing is that she doesn't only stick to simple, catchy pop. I mean, yeah that's her main musical backbone at the moment, but it seems like she's going back to her rock roots. Even now, she still does more rock-esque things.

And, at least compared to other pop artists, her songs have a whole lot more depth. Maybe sonically it can be repetitive, but the writing is really, really good.

Just gotta say, the Born This Way performance at the Grammy's was AMAZING.

And oh yeah, Gaga.

In NO WAY am I trying to stir up any problems this is just my opinion but Stefani is probably the most unoriginal musician... I'll never deny that she IS talented because she IS, but as an EX gaga fan and I was one way before she started calling her fans monsters and had blonde hair. She was never like how she acts now. Anyway back to my main point for the lack of originality.. I know this is said a lot but its true, around the time when Bad Romance came out I was no longer a fan mainly because of her image and anything from the fame monster to MADE THIS WAY don't appeal to me. She started coming off as a big rip-off of people like Róisín Murphy, Madonna, Grace Jones, Kylie Minogue, Björk, Freddie, David Bowie, Cher, Peaches, Karin Dreijer (A.K.A. FEVER RAY), Kerli, Annie Lennox (because of the most recent performance) and Other 80's acts etc. image wise.. But what ticks me off is that she acts like she's this pioneer and thinks she's this super artistic genius. ugh. Rolling Eyes

It's more in a sense of musical amalgamation.

I agree, she hasn't taken a creative risk so far lately, but what I do like is that she's taken what's done before and tweaks it into her own; not in a sense of pure plagiarizing but doing something in a sort of pseudo-reinterpretation.

Slayed This Way.

Credit has to be given to GaGa for her ingenuity and attempted original-ness. Though, admittedly I'm not a massive fan... no more than I am of any other chart artist I come across.

In terms of creative ethos, process, imagination, Imogen tops it in that department. There's no comparison I'm afraid.

I spoke to a friend a while ago about Lady GaGa and Imogen Heap and while I'm a massive fan of Immi, he is likewise with GaGa. It wasn't particularly friendly, he refused to acknowledge Imogen's creativity. But there you go.

I hold belief that Lady GaGa is an artist in her own right, but there doesn't seem to be much focus on her development of musical skill... and her fans seem to be drawn more to her generic music than anything more substantial than an outrageous outfit.

I'll listen to GaGa, but in passing. That's my opinion though. And I can't claim to have an entirely 100% founded opinion, as I don't follow her to an extent I know her ethos on music. She's doing something right, but she lacks in other areas too.

^I'm an extremely huge fan of Gaga, but I have to agree. She's pushing music in terms of mainstream pop, but it's rather slow. I think BTW was good in musical progression, but I'm still waiting. If she keeps up with progression, then I'm certainly excited for what's next.

... oh god, don't mention the fans. Some of the fans, especially on Twitter and YT, give off the WORST impression on the fanbase XD especially all the stanning tweets against other people. It's stupid, really.

Unfortunately, I've displayed a natural aversion to anything considered mainstream, and as GaGa is primarily a mainstream and highly popular musician, in a sense, I'm inclined to avoid her music if I can.

I said to someone a few days ago, that if someone has heard of Imogen Heap, you have to give credit - it shows that person has delved into the music world in search of something a little off the beaten track, something original. That is where the true fans of music appear against the mundane grey of those who follow only mainstream artists.

I agree. In a way, I hope Imogen never becomes extremely famous. I like to tell my friends about her, but there's something very special about not being mainstream. It's like she's a little secret, and that makes her music all the more personal. There's nothing original about liking a famous, mainstream band -- most people do. But it looks as if you put more thought into your choice of music if your favorite artist is a bit obscure. Adds some personality, if you know what I mean? But that's just my opinion.

I see what you mean. But, with that being said as a Gaga fan, it's also hard to find true fans and not bandwagon, 'HBIC' fans. And trust me, the moment Gaga ever experiments with anything a bit farther in pop than she is doing now, a whole lot of her fans will turn their back on her because she won't be the 'it' girl anymore.

Hell, she isn't the 'it' girl anymore and so many fans left because she isn't the 'cool' chick anymore. Sad.

When you put it like that, I see your point, specifically the band-wagoning. There's a little too much of that, which goes beyond mainstream fads... but to a level of conditioning. I'd rather be known via he interwebs and it's wee routes and have a true, hard and meaningful fanbase, than one who are only out for a basic bassline and a chart hit.

Imogen however, and I'm automatically going to be biased on this front, can draw on a vast fanbase, and the best thing about that pool is that those attracted to Imogen are of like-mind. They are creative, innovative, a little wacky and strive to seek and hold onto, to then nourish that which is originality, creativity and it's flair.

Considering it like that, I know where I'd rather be.

Sometimes I wish Gaga's fanbase were more like Imogen's (at least here), more in-tune and calm than rabid and angry and stanning and delusional and shit.

It's tiring.

There are going to be those who appreciate her for who and what she does - really appreciating the music and how she creates it, aswell as the way in which she does so. However, Lady GaGa is no doubt with a large record label and as such, subject to musical dictation - she may be forced down a specific route of musical creation, something basic and generic. As such, this is going to produce a less-than-hoped for music pool. I wonder, out of curiosity, how GaGa's music would develop if she were left to her own devices, independently without the pressure and expectation?

This album she had much more creative control in the composition, production, and performances of her music. MUCH more compared to the first. If she goes down that route I'd love it. I too wonder how her music would be without label control.

I'm guessing with all the influences of then and now, something metal-ish.

There's rumors that the label will have MORE control next album because her singles (especially Marry the Night's performance) didn't do as well (people are guessing because they weren't as radio friendly as her previous albums' singles).
