Hey, I caught the Vokle audition/chat and figured I'd summarize some of the news Imogen gave for those who didn't make it. It is mostly tour related but some of it is general info so I am posting it here. This is summarized in my own words and may be inaccurate or change. She mentioned a newsletter will go out soon, so sign up if you haven't. I figured all this info is fine to post here as Imogen said it directly to at least 30 people.
The US leg (leg 6?) is supposed to start May 23rd. (She might have said the 25th but around the middle/end of May) She mentioned already seeing the itinerary and it should be announced shortly via newsletter. It sounded like this is a US-only tour. (Sorry Canadian cities, especially if I'm wrong on this.) She didn't say where the first date is. (East coast/west coast, etc.) Santa Barbara is scheduled to have a show. Sign up for the newsletter if you haven't as the shows are expected to sell out quickly and there should be some type of pre-sale through the official site.
Here is where the *spoiler* type information is:
*spoiler*spoiler*spoiler*spoiler*
Coachella will be a solo acoustic performance, it will just be her and a piano (and I assume vocals). There aren't any "secret" shows in California planned around this date, as she plans to have a vacation afterward.
She hopes to have the "making of 'Ellipse'" DVD out for this tour. It looks like it will be about 90 minutes and cover the whole 3-year process of writing and recording the album. It should be available online for purchase around the same time for those not able to attend and for the rest of the world.
She plans to have the audience-chosen setlist for this tour where the attendees vote online ahead of time based on all of her songs including all b-sides and Frou Frou material. She also still has the vocal choir auditions in mind for performing "Earth".
She isn't sure about future live improvs happening and being released, like the one from Shepherd's Bush Empire, as she doesn't have the correct recording capabilities setup that she has in mind. (Where she can record everything on stage if she so chooses.)
Answers to people's questions:
Her "favorite" song to play live is "Tidal" because of the special solo.
She saw the London concert video but doesn't plan to release it due to her vocal performance that night. (She was ill and on a steroid RX to perform the show.)
There aren't any plans for another official single/video off of "Ellipse" but an unofficial animated video has been (or will be) made for "Aha!" (Sorry, I missed the correct name of who made it.)
P.S. Please don't use this thread to gossip about anbody's personal lives or complain about the upcoming touring plans |

<GASP.>
Vocal choir auditions!?!? For one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE immi songs EVER?
How did I miss this news? Um. I need to go buy a webcam now. What do you MEAN the stores aren't open until daytime?
...
I guess I'm a little bit excited. |

When did the 'audition' actually start? I could still see nothing at 7.30 GMT so I went back to bed.
As for 'Earth', if online auditions don't work for single cellists, there is a snowball's chance in hell of getting them to work for choral groups. |

Aw, come on! Be optimistic!
I'm sure there's some choir folks somewhere who will hear about this and go "YES! Let's sing Earth!"
I mean, there's a lot of people in the US, so we can hope... |

| It seems pretty complicated ! This song is so good with so many vocals ! It has to be rehearsed for days ! But it would be amazing ! |

I expect they would. In fact, there is already at least one group singing it on YouTube. But someone needs to seriously think about the practicalities of auditioning. And timing.

Hm. True.
But maybe send in YouTube-y vids? I mean, live prolly wouldn't be possible, but maybe if they sent it in early...
Hehe...I dunno. I think it'd just be fun to see how Immi would use a choir on stage with her, 'cause you just know if they did one song she'd prolly ask 'em to stick around and sing something else.
Oooh! She could do Glittering Clouds!
XD |

Yeah, I think sending vids would be more practical than trying to get a dozen people in front of a webcam!
Good idea about Glittering Clouds. If I remember rightly, Immi did work on that with a choral group for a charity event. It's mentioned somewhere in her blogs (video or written). |

I really love the vote for favorite songs idea. Hopefully some special "not so very well known" songs will get enough votes to count!
I think it's very cool of her that she's willing to play each song (if it gets enough votes that is) and a different setlist for every country/region she visits. |

I'm not really surprised the second U.S. leg is getting postponed, but I'm kind of sad. I had a concert-tastic end of 2009 and 2010's been a dry spell so far. It's almost the end of March and nothing's been announced yet, and trying to coordinate the entire tour in a couple of weeks would be quite hard. |

Was she just talking about the near future or all together? I find it very strange that only one official single/video is going to be released from the album.
This Aha! video sounds interesting.
Am so excited for the Making Of dvd to come out. I was so hopeing that it would be like a 3 to 4 hour dvd but 90 minutes will be just fine with me. That will be 90 minutes of ecstasy!!!
I really hope I can see her on the next leg of her US tour! |

I too would love her to play some of her lesser-known songs. Too bad that the audience will probably pick her more known ones. Oh well, maybe they'll be hardcore fans and pick the unknowns?
I'm hoping for: Missing You, Not You Again, Leave Me To Love, A New Kind of Love, Close Up, Deal With It, Mic Check (haha), and Earth. |

You think she will be running around the stage on high heels to get the right beat? Would be very awesome! |

I hope Immi knows what happened when David Bowie held a poll to choose songs for one of his tours. Everyone voted for The Laughing Gnome.

Has Immi got a Laughing Gnome of her own? |

That's what I would like to know too. This whole second single thing has gotten really complicated. |

I'd love to see what would happen if she got a bunch of votes for Mic Check and she decided to try it...that's actually one of my favorite songs.
Though I admit if I had to choose one live it'd be Have You Got It in You? 'cause there's only about two poor quality vids on YouTube and one concert from SF somebody uploaded where she was sick, so I'm dying to know what she'd do with it with her current set-up and non-sick voice.
Or my vote goes to Close Up, Not Now But Soon, Glittering Clouds, Breathe In...erm...okay, basically all of Details... XD |

Ah, Not Now But Soon would be fucking sick live. Live pitch bendind and running around that wooden tree. LOL.
Yeah, I'd love to see many from Details, too (Psychobabble mainly, because hopefully she'll have string performers to do that little solo)(Close Up, too, as she can do some cool loops with the guitar synth on her KeyTar). But, in the end, I'm an iMegaphone junkie, and would love to see her do songs from the album live, whether acoustic or not, I don't mind.

Rescheduled UK dates will hopefully be announced at the same time as the US dates, if not it will be shortly afterwards.
I think at the moment there's 1 Canadian date on the North American run. |

Alright... hopefully it's Toronto!
Thanks for the info, James. |

| I heard she'd be returning to Toronto after the last show. If so I'm definitely there. I passed up the last one because I didn't want to pay $50 to listen to screaming and tone-deaf people singing along to every song, but judging from youtube videos, Immi fans are generally really good at listening. That said, I'd love to hear The Dumbing Down of Love. |

I was at the Toronto show in November and she did say she'd be coming back to Toronto early this year. I hope that's still the case... I don't think the 2009 North American tour dates had any Frou Frou in the setlist.
Where I was seated for the Toronto show people were well behaved (well, not so much for the opening acts, as there was quite a bit of talking going on then). In fact people who attended the concert with me remarked on how revered Immi is by her fans and how well behaved they were at that concert (especially since she attracts a fairly young crowd).
However, I did notice in certain other areas of the theatre that there was more "yahoo" types that were singing along etc. However, after viewing a lot of live clips on YouTube, and comparing them to the Toronto crowd, I would say the Toronto audience was no problem at all in that regard. I put part of that down to having reserved seating in a decent theatre. If she had played at the Phoenix or some other crappy standing-room only venue, I think it might be different. By the way, the QE theatre was a great venue. Not too large and better sightlines and sound than Massey Hall. |
