A couple of days ago I thought I'd set myself the challenge of covering all of "Speak For Yourself", a fairly large project that would be a lot of fun. Then today I grabbed my ego by the earlugs and said to myself: "The Internet." "The Internet is full to its brim with Imogen Heap fans, alot of them musically skilled themselves." And that is how I arrived at this thread.
I want you guys to help me create a tribute to Immi, different people covering all the tracks from SFY start to finish. I want people to give it their own edge, keep the songs true to themselves but give them their own character, what better way to show your appreciation for phenomenal music, right?
If your not musically adept no worries, your just as much an integral part as the others, this would need artwork, promotion and support, all vital elements.
With regards to the songs, if you have already covered a track or two and you think its good enough then send it in, if you think you can rustle up a great cover then let me know, do it and send me it, there won't be a single thing given to me that I'l overlook, everything will be fair game.
What if you don't have a vocalist, what if you can't sing? Invent a new style, borrow a friend or collaborate with other contributors, whatever the means, I really want this to come together, it would be a staple of music appreciation. Even if you just have a kind of cool instrumental cover or an acapella version, anything will be considered and anything can be corrolated to get the end product.
So if your up for it, or know anyone who would be hit me up at:
speakingforourselves@googlemail.com
(thats right a whole email account for this baby )
If and when you have a finished product then just attach it to an email and send it to the above address, mention how you want to be credited and add any comments/trivia about your submission you think is appropriate
If you want to reserve a song to cover, let me know and I'll try to keep the space open, in the end it will come down to which entries are the best, so give it your best!
Any submissions, queries, suggestions, requests or otherwise, mail it. I will read it. Together we can make this freaking awesome. But i'm relying on you guys.
EDIT: Loads of responses now, thanks you guys Tracklisting and availability below (Y)

I don't really know yet ...
I'm really afraid that i could damage a beautiful song from Imogen ... trying to cover it !
So, instinctively, i would pick "i am in love with you" ... so i won't be able to damage anything ... as this song is probably the only bad one from Imogen and the only one that I really don't like at all ...
Plus, i recognize myself in the lyrics, nowadays ! |

Its cool, we're not going to aim for a perfect reflection of SYL but if you can capture the spirit of it and give it a little touch of you then that should be awesome I'l keep that space open for you if you like, il be interested to see what you come up with Tell your friends! |

The internet isn't totally full of them but theres a few here:
http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/imogen_heap_tabs.htm
Even if they're not so accurate you could at least get the key from there, nothing stopping you from picking your own key and working from there, could give some of the sadder songs a little glint or some of the happier ones a minor edge, what song(s) did you have in mind? |

Is it just the mixing you dont like? Would you be able to record even something acoustic or on piano? Not everything has to be studio perfect, just looking for quite good quality, so if you don't want to computer it up, record yourself doing a song on piano or guitar, get a band together even
What song(s) did you have in mind? |

I'm not promising anything either but I'll try and cover The Walk.
And to whoever does Hide and Seek, please please please don't use a vocoder. |

Aha, The Walk is my favourite Do it justice my friend! Okay i'll keep that space reserved for you, and I think i'll edit the original post to show a tracklisting and availability. As cool as the vocoder can be, I think you might be right, it would be cool to hear it un-masked. |

Haha, the big one, if you think you can do it justice then I'd love to see what you come up with, this is one i'l keep open for everyone who wants to, to try rather than it be a first come first served thing, look forward to it |

Tried something with Closing In today, I figured out the chords, but my interpretation sounds sadder than the original one, but has some elements from it. Still can't say for sure if I'm going to finish it. Actually I will be sure only when it's fully finished... |

Everyones wary of putting their own take on something they admire, but if you have the knowledge of the song and know why you love it then the results should be great Keep me posted \m/ |

Is it okay if I add some original and new melodies for some of the instruments? Because it's actually sounds like a mix between Immi's version and something new. |

Thats what i'm looking for
A cross between your style and the original Immi song, this project should be listenable as a seperate entity, a strange yet great crossing of worlds, not just a mirror reflection, go for it, I'd love to hear where you go with it (Y) |

I started something with I am in love with you ...
I got lots of ideas ...
I used almost all my dishes to record sounds ... |

Oh, and I'm curious what do you want to do with these covers once the 'album' is finished and all 12 (+ bonuses) are chosen/ready... |

Nothing too grand, collate them, along with the artwork and any liner notes/credits, and mash it all into a downloadable RAR file. I'm no good with online publicity or promotion though, would be good if its a release thats known about.
Theres no money to made from this either, thats not what im after, it will be a free download with all the aforementioned contents And then he fans have an interesting and hopefully really good fan release to tide them over a little til Ellipse is upon us. |
