The Walk. I've been listening to it on repeat for a few days now, and the swoopy feeling in my tummy hasn't gone away yet Very Happy "Give in, give in, and relish every minute of it" just gets me every time.

Goodnight and Go is a close second, though... it's kind of yummy and fluffy and just *bright*, you know? I love it.

I can't remember if I posted a comment on this thread before, but here goes another one:
This is my order!
"Clear the Area"
"Headlock"
"Loose Ends"
"Closing In"
"The Walk"
"Have You Got It In You?"
"The Moment I Said It"
[I'm putting a break here 'cause these are my lesser-liked sings.]
"Hide and Seek"
"I Am In Love With You"
"Goodnight and Go"
"Just For Now"
and "Daylight Robbery"
Though I think I voted for "Headlock" before.... :/

P.S.: Lenore, I like your signature. :]

Hallo everybody. Really hard to pick a favorite here, and it probably will change. Wink

" I Am In Love With You" takes first ( really hard to pick a favorite here! Very Happy ) for me, since it puts me in a good mood 'cause I love all the quirky, funky blurps and bleeps. Also love the song's meaning.

" Hide and Seek" is what hooked me in though. Beautiful album Imogen!

Yours,

~Brighton~

I really Love Hide and Seek. How she uses her voice as an instrument rather than relying on traditional music. Love it!

I can't decide... It's so hard, I love the whole album... But I'll try. Razz
Headlock used to be my fav, and it's still way up there, but at the moment Closing In is #1. At first I just thought "Wow, that's really pretty" XD which it is of course, but then after really listening to the lyrics I was like "AAAWWWW!"
I like the first verse especially n.n
But okay okay, top five... *hides*
Closing In
The Walk
Headlock
Clear The Area
Hide & Seek

There.
Subject to change.
And did I mention I luff luff luff the whole album? Mr. Green

I really love Hide and Seek. It's really one of her signature tracks and it's definitely the highlight of the album for me. It's so different, and whenever I listen to it, it just really brightens up my mood. Weird for such a pretty somber track I find, haha.

But I really love the whole album. Each song is perfectly crafted and really offer both variety and quality. <3

I must say, I love Goodnight and Go. It's the song that convinced me to buy the album without ever hearing any of the other songs.

I'm actually a little surprised Daylight Robbery didn't get more votes. Hands down, it's my favorite. It's just so invigorating and vivacious, it's irresistible. I've persisted to play it for all of my friends, and they agree that it's genius. It's one of the only songs I dance to. It's so intense and fast, and I adore the lyrics, especially, "Excess is the new moderation to the power of 10." Ah. I could listen to it for hours (and have done so).

But really, I adore all of the songs.

Thinking of the album versions of these songs, Hide and Seek is my clear winner. Compositionally, its A/B/A/B/C/D song structure breaks pop music convention. Lyrically, Imogen turns in some intriguing phrases. Sonically, the pseudo-a capella harmonizer use makes the song instantly recognizable both within Imogen's work and the whole world of pop music.

But the live versions I've heard of Hide and Seek have made me wince due to bad notes. Perhaps the harmonizer exaggerates the problem. At any rate, the "Morning Becomes Eclectic" live version of The Walk takes a decent album track and elevates it to something special, from the mbira on the verses to the electric piano choruses and harmonizer bridge.

In the same vein, the live-in-studio a capella performance of Just For Now that you'll find on YouTube (and elsewhere, no doubt) not only shows off Imogen's ability to use her electronic toys in the live setting, but provides a more energetic and interesting result than the album version (which I found lyrically amusing but musically too syrupy) at the same time. She really seems to be having a good time on this performance.

For me, "Closing In" is the most emotionally climactic song on the entire album. I can imagine a time-elapse video of a city to the whirring noises in the intro. "I can't wait to be with you..."

I like to imagine it in a male perspective.

I tend to skip "The Moment I Said It" because it contrasts so much with "Closing In". "The Walk" is my second favourite for having a space battle vibe (Commander and Space Cadet?)

I picked "The Moment I Said It".

It's a heartbreaking song. Musically incredible. The lyrics are amazing.

I heard Speak for Yourself when I was going through a lot of relationship strife, and this album helped me move through it. But "The Moment I Said It" was very definitive for me. It was one of those songs that I was just floored to hear, and I played on repeat a few times to really let it soak in, and then I felt safe to let it move me to tears.

I know. So cheesy. But music keeps me sane, esp. Immi's stuff.

I chose Headlock but I do have other favourite songs like Daylight Robbery and The Moment I Said It. Ultimately I think, it has to be Headlock. I dunno why but I can listen to it over and over again. The video for it was really nice too. I've always considered myself a very all-over-the-place type of guy and I think I relate to this song because of the many changes occurring in it.

It's also a very quiet and peaceful song with a more instrumental rise in the middle. There's also an element of innocence that I get from the tune. After watching Immi's vBlogs and getting a taste of her personality [what you can get over the net] I think it sums up how I see her.

I love it.
